Not everyone dreams of a white Christmas. Some families prefer to spend their holiday season somewhere warm and comfortable where there are more lights around palm trees than Christmas trees. This, combined with the number of Christmas activities, is what makes Orlando the perfect Christmas destination. Just because the weather is warmer and there’s no snow to be found doesn’t mean that the spirit of the holiday season is missing in Orlando; there are plenty of Christmas activities for families.
Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party
Throughout the month of December, Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom puts on Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. This party is at the Magic Kingdom, several nights a week from 7 pm to midnight, and admission is separate from regular theme park admission. At the party, kids get to meet Santa and Mrs. Claus as well as have their pictures taken with their favorite princesses and characters, all dressed up for the holidays. There is a spectacular evening Christmas parade that features Mickey, Minnie, and all their favorite friends. The theme park is decorated with magnificent holiday decorations, and each night guests get to watch a spectacular fireworks show over Cinderella’s castle. There is nothing quite like the holiday spirit at Disney World.
ICE at the Gaylord Palms
Every year, the Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center in Orlando transforms their indoor facilities into a winter wonderland with more than 2 million pounds of sculpted ice. The event is held each year, and every year there is a different Christmas theme. Sculptors bring in 2 million pounds of ice and carve it into spectacular Christmas decorations, including slides on which families can play. The ice sculptures are kept in a room with a temperature of approximately 9 degrees. Families can walk through the exhibit, buy gifts, play with the ice, and play on the slides, all while wearing the heavy parkas provided by the hotel. It is an experience that kids love, and adults find fascinating.
Universal Studios Grinchmas at Islands of Adventure
The Suess Landing at Islands of Adventure is turned into a Grinchmas holiday spectacular for Christmas every year. The experience features a live performance of How the Grinch Stole Christmas, a spectacular light display, and “Wholiday” decorations. Kids and adults will get a kick out of seeing the Grinch and the residents of Whoville celebrate the Christmas season complete with a parade, musical performance, and plenty of dancing through the streets.
Macy’s Holiday Parade
Who says you have to go to New York City to see this legendary parade? You can catch the Macy’s Holiday parade right through the streets of Universal Studios. The parade features many of the same iconic floats and balloons families see every year during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in NYC. Following the parade is the annual tree lighting ceremony, a meet and greet with Santa himself, and everyone’s favorite holiday characters. There’s something special about seeing the parade during the Christmas season, when the weather is great and the adventure is only beginning.
