Show Us Your German Fashion & Style: Introducing Week 1 + Infographic!

In case you haven’t heard, Sixt is hosting a social media contest to win a free luxury car rental for a week! Starting today, the contest will take place over 5 weeks with a chance to win each week and 5 different German themes for you to participate by posting a photo or video to Instagram, Twitter or Facebook. The theme of the first week is German fashion & style! We have prepared this infographic for you to see some notable fashion icons and companies with their German origins.

Origins of German Fashion & Style

Sixt rent a car was founded in Germany so we love having the opportunity to teach you a little about German culture! Here are some fun facts about German fashion and style.

  • Blonde supermodels, Heidi Klum and Claudia Schiffer, were born nearly an hours drive from each other! We think there must be something in the water there.
  • The famous outfits you’ve seen worn at Oktoberfest and other Bavarian festivals, lederhosen for men and dirndl for women, originated as common farm clothing but was later adopted for the celebratioin and recognition of Bavarian history.
  • Two of the most well recognized athletic brands in the world, Adidas and Puma, began as an intense rivalry between the Dassler brothers. Don’t worry, the rivalry was settled in 2009 with a friendly soccer match between the two companies.
